Stivan is a small village on the western side of Cres Island, and unlike the other two settlements following Stivan on the road and settled right on the coast (Martinšćica, Miholašćica), Stivan is situated on the hillside. The renewing of the houses of the village with medieval history has been started recently, and quiet a few of them are now offered for holiday makers.

The coast with its two gravel beaches, Merašćica and Lučica can be reached through a valley between Orlec and Konjić hills, a walk to the beaches takes about 30 minutes. Considering the uphill road backwards, most of the visitors of the beaches come by cars. The parking in Merašćica Bay has normally enough space to leave the cars there (parking is free). From Merašćica Bay the other, small bay, Lučica is available by a walking path.

Stivan has one small grocery, open in the morning and evening hours, closed on Sundays. There are no restaurants or bars in the village, one would go to Miholašćica, Martinšćica or Belej to eat, dine, etc. Accommodation is in apartments at private houses or whole houses and villas are available, too, for rent. One of the small houses is located right on the beach in Merašćica Bay.
